Garden design - Fernando Caruncho featured in the Telegraph Magazine

As #ARSE2010* draws nearer, thoughts turn to which gardens to visit this year. This article in the Telegraph Magazine caught my eye for the pure geometry and sculptural planting in Fernando Caruncho's gardens. The print version has some glorious photos which are sadly lacking in the online article.

Caruncho's design ethos of basing his gardens, even the curvaceous ones, on a grid pattern, is hardly new, but remarkably successful visually. Similarly, his restrained palette of plants is seductively appealing.

Most of Caruncho's work is in Spain, including areas of Madrid's Royal Botanical Gardens, so until he designs more gardens in the UK, a trip to view his landscapes will have to be part of a European ARSE - like last year's ARSE2009 in France.
