Spring in Rye - photos

Got to get out of London, we thought, what with it being a Bank Holiday and all. So we headed for Rye, with a small amount of trepidation given that my 2001 TimeOut 'Weekend breaks from London' book put Rye in the 'Kent' chapter (it's actually in Sussex). Optimism was also dealt a blow by the assertion that 'good food isn't a strong point here, and a man could drown in deep-fried brie in Rye if he weren't careful'. But it was actually very pleasant!

There could've been a little less of an icy chill in the air, but some fine dinners, ales and warming red wines made up for it. We walked past some sheep to Camber Sands, saw the traditions surrounding the election of a new Mayor, bought some terracotta worms, and did other Bank Holidayish things.

Sights in Rye include a windmill, the Ypres Tower (built 1249) and numerous antique shops.

Pubs of note include The Ship Inn and The George.

In Camber, convenience stores of note include BJ's On The Beach (hoping to rank in Google for that phrase...)
